Didn’t want celebrity friends on my tour.
Singer Selena Gomez says she did not want her celebrity friends to join on her “Revival” tour because she wants to be known for her solo music career rather than her association with them. The 23-year-old songstress rejected the idea of being accompanied by her friends Cara Delevingne, Hailee Steinfeld, Gigi Hadid and the ‘Bad Blood’ hitmaker on stage, because she doesn’t want her association with celebrity pals to detract from her as a musician, reported Entertainment Weekly.
Gomez spoke about Swift’s “The 1989 Tour”, which saw her and Lisa Kudrow emerge on stage during her LA performance for a duet.
“I made a joke about this [getting her friends to join her on tour], Taylor was in the room, and she looked at me like, ‘You should totally do that!’ I was like, ‘I can’t have all those people come on my stage!’ She’s like, ‘Why not?’ ‘Because I’m not Taylor Swift!'” she said.
“I’ve worked for my whole career, and I’ve always wanted it to be about that. I’ve been in so many situations where it’s like, ‘Oh, you’re friends with this person? You’re with that person?’ All this credibility thing that drives me crazy.
The “Hands To Myself” hitmaker, however, said she does enjoy collaborating with other artists, although her solo career is her main priority for now.
“I love being able to work with other artists I admire. But I have a lot to do on my own before I am willing to make it all about embracing other people.”
