The celebrity face tattoos that make you question their owner's sanity

Last weekend, Justin Bieber shared a picture (second left) on his Instagram account that suggests that he has joined a very elite (and somewhat dubious) club of celebrities: those who have decided to get their faces tattooed.

Bieber's new ink, a small - almost invisible - cross at the corner of his eye, was apparently done at the West 4th Tattoo Parlor in New York City.
Celebrity tattoo artist Jonboy, who says he gave the 22-year old singer his first face tattoo, reported that the symbol "represents [Bieber's] journey in finding purpose with God.”

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson opted to get his iconic tribal face tattoo when on a night out in Las Vegas - probably not the best time to make a face-changing decision. It has since become arguably the defining face tattoo in popular culture, most notably cropping up in the Hangover film series.

Cee Lo Green

Despite distracting from them with his flamboyant outfits, Cee Lo Green actually has several face tattoos. A rose above his ear, the word 'TRILL' on the side of his head, and a cross by his right eye. The question mark by his left eye asks the question on everyone's lips - why?

Dappy

Dappy, of N-Dubz fame, has always had a hard time of it in the public eye. Frequently lampooned on social media, the rapper doesn't help his own cause - in 2014 he got a tattoo of a hashtag under his left eye to ensure his face "was trending forever."

Brent Hinds

Brent Hinds is the lead singer and guitarist of heavy metal band Mastodon. Even if the band's music has passed you by, surely you couldn't miss Hind's Maori tribal face tattoo. "I wanted to get a headdress, Polynesian head dress, in New Zealand," said Hinds in an issued statement. "I grew up with tattooed face dudes. My mom likes it, so that’s okay."

Sinead O`Connor

Sinead O'Connor made headlines in 2013 when she got a large letter tattooed on each of her cheeks. Meant as a tribute to her former partner Brendan Quinlan, the singer hastily got the tattoo lasered off after countless people linked her ink to a popular DIY wholesalers.

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne, an American rapper, has over 20 tattoos on his face and neck. Among them, a 'C' between his eyes after his mother, Cita; three dots by his right eye to represent 'laugh', 'think' and 'cry'; and the words 'Fear' and 'God' on his eyelids to show his religious beliefs.

Zayn Malik

Earlier this year, former One Direction member Zayn Malik caused a stir when he posted this image to Instagram. What initially looked like a permanent tribute to his mother turned out to be a temporary piece of inky PR wizardry for his new album 'Mind of Mine'. Much to the relief of his legion of fans, Zayn's 'tattoo' quickly disappeared, leaving his face perfectly unblemished.
